Bio
Suzi studied classical music at Goldsmiths University London (2010-2013), specialising in vocal performance and research, and continued to explore her creative practise by travelling, teaching, and gigging for several years throughout the Americas living and working on the Pacific coast of Costa Rica. During this time, she also trained in Professional Acting with the Oxford School of Drama, receiving a Prof.Dip (2017). Suzi returned home to the UK in 2019 and now lives in Bristol, England.
Suzi loves creating work with other artists and has enjoyed rewarding work as a Collaborative Artist on commissioned projects such as community storytelling with The Pembrokeshire Story (Torch Theatre Wales, 2020), spoken word and vocal soundscape in Bridge with award-winning poet Gemma Barnett (Theatre Deli London, 2021) and resident artist with the arts and pilgrimage project Creative Camino (Ancient Connections, 2022).
Originally from the wild west coast of Pembrokeshire, Suzi’s love of nature and site-specific work is a strong theme in her creative practise. Pilgrimage became a thread in her work and music, and she has gained a following on YouTube from her song titled ‘The Camino Song’ about her journey on the Camino de Santiago, which currently has almost 40k views. She also appeared on BBC 1’s Songs of Praise in August 2022, to play the Camino Song and talk about her experience with music and pilgrimage. She has since delivered workshops titled ‘Vocal Discovery and Song’ based around vocal improvisation and harmony singing in the natural landscape.
Suzi has performed her own music as solo, trio and full band arrangements at the following venues and festivals: The Gallimaufry, El Rincon, The Greenbank, Boia Festival, On Lands Edge Festival, St David’s Cathedral, Fern’s Cathedral (Ireland), and Unearthed Festival.
Recent highlights include receiving her Develop Your Creative Practise grant from Arts Council England in 2023, which afforded Suzi the opportunity to write her debut album and take leaps forward in her career. This led to her being appointed as a ‘Teaching Fellow in Singing’ at Bath Spa University.
Suzi is happily settled in Bristol amongst the vibrant and innovative creative scene. She performs regularly with the all-femme improvisation band Cove, which host a monthly jam of improvised ambient music focused on inclusivity and wellbeing. She’s also a member of “vocal tour de force” Tryani Collective who recently headlined the Sankofa’s stage at Shambala Festival 2023 and is part of the cast for the ongoing improvisation show This Is Your Musical at Bristol Improv Theatre.
